Take Shape For Life; what’s it all about?

 Take Shape For Life is a quick, easy, nutritious, and affordable program that promotes weight loss and healthy eating habits. It incorporates Medifast food, which are low-calorie, pre-measured, nutritionally balanced meal replacements designed to help you lose weight and improve your health. The meals are in individual packets that you mix with water, microwave, and/or refigerate. They come in a wide variety of flavors and choices, including shakes, puddings, soups/stew, chili, oatmeal, bars and hot beverages. Quick and easy to prepare they offer a healthy fast food alternative to a busy lifestyle. During your weight-loss phase, you will be on a 5&1 Plan where you’ll eat a total of 5 Medifast Meals (1 meal every 2-3 hours), plus 1 Lean and Green meal of meat and vegetables daily.

One reason this program is so successful is that the weight comes off pretty rapidly, about 2-5 lbs per week, and it is highly motivating to see the scale move daily. This program is nutrition based and is healthy because all you are losing is “fat”, and not muscle. You will be amazed with how much energy people have when on this program.                                      

People often ask—won’t I be hungry? Surprisingly, no, your body adjusts.  When you are on the MediFast program it changes your body from burning glycogen as energy to burning fat as energy.  The reason that it does this is because of low calorie combined with a balance of carbs, fats, and proteins.  It takes your body three days to get into this “fat burning” process. 

 This is a program, not a “diet”.  It is a three stage program:

 Fat burning:  time depends on how much weight you want to lose.  While you are in the fat burning mode, you have high energy, low hunger and are highly motivated because it comes of quickly.  The average weight loss is 2-5 lbs each week.

 Transition: 16-20 days depending on how much weight you lost. You add back food groups into your diet.  This is the important stage and we will walk you through it.

 Maintenance:  The rest of your life.  Usually people are over weight because how they live and what they chose to eat.  In maintenance many clients choose to use 1-3 Medifast items to keep your calorie count low and your nutrition high.  If you see the scale starting to creep up, you just add a few more Medifast items to your diet until you get back to your goal weight.

 This program is supported by the Johns Hopkins Hospital and used by 15,000 doctors in the U.S. Being over weight and the health issues it brings is almost the #1 cause of death in America.  Just by losing 10% of your body weight you greatly reduce your chance for heart disease, not to mention how much better you feel and how you are able to enjoy and do so many other things. 

 Recently Medifast realized that clients are more successful when they have a health coach to support them and guide them.  That’s when they created Take Shape for Life.  Prior to TSFL you could only get on the program from a Physician.  As your Health Coach, my role is to support and encourage you along this journey.  Occasionally you might have questions and I am here for that.
